![]() I've even used the built-in laptop wi-fi a few times (but it's range is basically too terrible to be that useful for the connection I need). Been doing it for 6 years and I've never had so much as a glitch. I use 2 channels of wi-fi to run the computer when I mix live sound. These are such light weight items that I don't believe it matters but maybe if you're really trying to squeeze out those last couple CPU cycles with a 10 year old machine. Most of these lists tell you to disable Spotlight, Wi-fi, & Bluetooth especially for Protools use (which FYI doesn't really help Protools it turns out). Another bit of paranoia introduced in OSX 10.9 that by default only runs Apple apps downloaded from the App Store. Check the box for Allow Apps downloaded from anywhere. System Preferences/Security & Privacy: General tab. Usually prevent altogether unless making an intentional setup for a laptop when running on battery. System Preferences/Energy Saver: Make appropriate settings for system and hard drive sleep. (We're going to be replacing it with a proper backup app.) ![]() System Preferences/Time Machine: Turn it off. (Only crashy when in use with internets of course.) ![]() System Preferences/Flash Player: Don't let it call home or save data. Easy enough to run Software Update when you intend to. System Preferences/Software Update: Turn the scheduled call home for this off. (Won't really affect a DAW except probably Protools.) System Preferences/Desktop & Screen saver: If a screen saver turning on too often or at all is annoying, turn it off here. System Preferences/Security & Privacy: Turn off the 'call home with user data' stuff here. Apps are quite easy to launch when you want to use them! Some browsers may add their app to the list to autolaunch. Disable autolaunching of apps at boot in System Preferences/Accounts > Login Items Verify the apps you want to use and specifically versions you already own to work with the version of OSX you aim to install.
